Yes.. I stole it from the Phil Collins song... The 80's were good though weren't they? I know I was only born in 1989 but I watch VH1 so I know what I'm talking about.. barely... So yesterday I used my knowledge of the decade to lure someone (I happen to fancy) in my direction. At first I felt bad but then I got over it when it actually worked. Seconds later I was in rivetting conversation with my crush. It made me think about how we are often scared to use our talents to further ourselves usually because of what the people around us will think. "If I apply for GRASS Comm my friends will think I'm really eager" or the more common one "If I answer the question everyone will make that ghastly sound of Ooohhhs and ahhsss only used for goody-two shoes-es... in lectures". It's bad enough we get criticised for making mistakes but now we get criticised for being intelligent enough to answer questions in class, we get mocked for being correct??? It doesn't make sense! I say SHINE... Let them crit you, you know what you want out of life and if it involves lifting up your hand when the lecturer asks a question, the thrust your hand upwards as though you were reaching for Athens itself! And always remember that the academic day only lasts from 7.45am until 5.30pm, after that you reside in the solitude of your room where you can blast 80's music and no one will judge you. "She's an easy lover, la la la she's like no other, la la la..."
